You might recall Scott Collins as a scooter owner. I know he has owned 2 (he upgraded). Both bought used and he maintained them. A resource!?

I think we all should be thinking in the low transportation cost/low gas use direction. You should get the scooter. Any problems could be worked out.

I removed the boat ride from youTube because it upset the owner of the boat.

Was it my singing?

I missed the Waikamoi Trail! I will not miss it next time. I would like to have seen what the forest on Haleakela looked like before so much of it was cleared. It's always nice to have a reason to go back.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the great Maui update. Did you hike the Waikamoi Trail?
http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/hawaii/preserves/art2358.html It leaves from Hosmer's Grove and is definitely worth checking out. You are right ranger led hikes are awesome. I should look some up around here.

I loved the images of my dad and brother fishing! It reminded me of a show that was on TV when I was little called "Let's Go Fishing."

Charles,

Modern computers make it possible for anyone to set up a recording studio. There was only so much room in my suitcase, so I did not bring my microphones and USB interface box to Maui. It would have been a real coup to include Coursen on some songs. Coursen is very skilled at the guitar and bass. I hope we can share tracks some day. As Coursen noted when we tried "All Along the Watchtower", my musical timing leaves a lot to be desired. We need to lay down a simple rhythm track first... Interested?

I look forward to similar documentation from others. If anybody needs help, I'm more than willing. One breakthrough with the video editing was to load the software that came with my camera. It must have had drivers that allowed Windows Movie Maker to make sense of the format of the recordings produced by my camera. Without loading the camera software first, Movie Maker seemed broken.

This record of the trip is wonderful. The fishing trip, Coursen working up in the trees, the ranger tour: all skillfully narrated and accompanied by the jazz of Joshua Kaye, our nephew, or the sung music or Greg, with Coursen harmonizing. This narrative, the still photos and the associated videos were really amazing. Well done.

Thanks for the comments, Anne and Dan. I hope others will be inspired to get a camera and document the important things. We're just passing by and future generations will little note what we do here. However our moments together are the only real riches we have. We should strive to make the most of them.

Sharing adventures is what I had in mind when I thought of the name of this blog: Fireside Chats.
